Last February 4 was the annual alumni homecoming of Davao Christian High School. This year’s homecoming was handled by Batch ’92, with the slogan “Back to the Hive”. This theme was decided with the idea in mind that their batch is like bees – hardworking, united, and, well, noisy.
The event began at around 5pm, starting the night with cocktails. Graduates of this institution and old friends got together while eating, drinking, and talking. By 7 pm, the auditorium was packed with guests, both on the first floor and the balcony. It was transformed into something that resembled a concert arena.
By 7:30, the lights dimmed and the host came up on stage. She started by naming the list of sponsors that helped make the event possible. After this, the first act started. First, Neil Rey Garcia Llanes, known as the Human Beatbox, a qualifier for the semi-finals of Asia’s Got Talent 2015, performed. He was able to woo the audience with his amazing skills, beatboxing to famous songs like One Dance, Uptown Funk, Low, and even PPAP.
Next was a special performance from Batch 2016 – the first batch of Senior High Students. They danced along to a remix of 90s songs, such as Ice Ice Baby, Build Me Up Buttercup, and My Boo.
After the dance, it was time for the highlight of the night – the grand winner of Asia’s Got Talent 2015, El Gamma Penumbra. El Gamma Penumbra performed a total of three times – starting with a song interpretation dedicated to Davao Christian High School, telling the school’s history and showing God’s grace. After this, they performed their winning piece for Asia’s Got Talent – a shadow play that raises awareness of the environment and its relevance in our lives, and how we are simply abusing it. Their last performance was the well-known Philippine Tourism Promotional act, performed to the song “Piliin Mo ang Pilipinas”.
Their performances were followed by a small tribute to Batch 92’s teachers. This was followed by Batch 92 turning over the key to Batch 93, who will be holding next year’s alumni homecoming. The night ended with the announcement of the raffle winners of the Ford Fiesta and Ford Ecosport.
