During the school’s Buwan ng Wika Celebration, school director Ms. Franelli Pableo announced that Davao Christian High School has collected a total of Php 37,537 for the DCHS Tulong Sulong Para sa Marawi Outreach Program last August 29.
The DCHS Tulong Sulong Para sa Marawi Outreach Program was arranged by 1197 DXFE’s outreach program #BecauseICare. The money was given to by DXFE Manager Magnolia Yrasuegui, and was used to purchase hygiene packs and complete care packages containing pain relief patches and food.
Andyliza Sarigumba, a teacher from the high school department, spearheaded the outreach program in DCHS. The high school teachers came to assistance by counting the collected money every Friday during the duration of the program.
Sarigumba said that the students’ act of generosity was overwhelming.
“I’m blessed with the students’ generosity and maturity because [the school] has emphasized that [the fundraising program] was not a contest, pero nagbigay parin sila (but they still gave). They learned to give without strings attached, like additional points,” she said.
Pableo said that she was thankful for the students’ kindness and that she believes the school can do more in the next fundraising projects to come.
“I believe we could have raised more if we promoted the fundraising as a month-long program. I know we can do more next time, but this was a good start,” Pableo said.
She also mentioned how the thoughtfulness of the students for the military touched her.
“I am moved by how the students thought of the military fighting in Marawi, and now we have seen that the they have fought a good fight by giving freedom to the city,” she added.
The fundraising program ran for two weeks, from August 14 to August 25, with donations coming from students from Junior High and Senior High School.
The three sections that donated the most amount of money - Grade 7 Love with Php 5972.35, Grade 7 Peace with Php 3806.40, and Grade 9 Compassion with Php 3403.65 - were given recognition.
