For serving Davao Christian High School for 10 to 20 years, six teachers and non-teaching staff were presented service awards last September 29 during the school’s Oscars-themed Teachers’ Day.
Teacher Jillen Dey Onggo and staff Irene Uy and Dezaldy Rosal were awarded for their service for 10 years, while teachers Giselle Zablan and May Salang and staff Luz Baguio for 20 years.
"Masaya and thankful ako na (I feel so happy and thankful that) I received the award. I felt so blessed," Salang said. Recalling her first award ten years ago, she said that she felt encouraged and motivated. "I feel motivated to teach and with that, maka encourage kasi parang feeling mo (you become encouraged because you [feel that]) your presence in the institution is being appreciated."
The Teacher’s Day celebration, organized by the DCHS Student Council, featured a variety of performances and presentations that aimed to recognize teachers’ hard work and efforts.
"We wanted to make the teachers feel special through them dressing up as celebrities for an awards show. We wanted it to be fun and dazzling as well," SC secretary Claire Yeung said.
The students showcased their talents in singing and dancing songs from movies of different genres. Several audio-visual presentations of selected teachers and personnel, based off trailers of popular movies, also captured their acting talents.
